Plastic Debris on Beach Traps Turtles.

By Bryson on January 27, 2012

Christmas Island is an Australian island, which lies just east of Cocos Keeling and just west of Bali, Indonesia. After all the pollution we found on the island of Cocos Keeling (click here), it was not suprising to see this footage of baby turtles getting stuck in the large pieces of plastic debris that have washed up on the beaches of Christmas Island.

Charles Moore coming to Vancouver ! Free tickets…

By Bryson on January 17, 2012

Plastic Ocean: An Evening with Scientist and TED Lecturer Captain Charles Moore

Prominent seafaring environmentalist, researcher, and TED lecturer Captain Charles Moore shares his shocking discovery of the Great Pacific Garbage Patch in the Pacific Ocean, and inspires a fundamental rethinking of the Plastic Age and a growing global health crisis.

In the summer of 1997, Charles Moore set sail from Honolulu with the sole intention of returning home after competing in a trans-Pacific race. To get to California, he and his crew took a shortcut through the seldom-traversed North Pacific Subtropical Gyre, a vast “oceanic desert” where winds are slack and sailing ships languish. There, Moore realized his catamaran was surrounded by a “plastic soup.” He had stumbled upon the largest garbage dump on the planet – a spiral nebula where plastic outweighed zooplankton, the ocean’s food base, by a factor of six to one.

    OceanGybe – Webisode – 11 – Ayam Makan “Chicken Meal” – Indonesia

By oceangybe on December 18, 2011

After surfing epic, Indonesian perfection all day, the OceanGybe boys are hungry for more than waves and head to the local market for dinner supplies. “Kami mau dua ayam banyak, saya potong” translated from Bahasa Indonesian into English literally means, “We would like two big chickens, we will kill them”, but when you order a chicken in Indonesia, it arrives warm, feathered and definitely clucking.

WARNING: If you are squeamish (like Bryson…see him gag @ 06:48), a vegetarian or from PETA, please be advised, chickens are killed in this video and you might not want to watch. Plus there is some great surf!
